The Hill House by David Coleman Architecture

The Hill House is composed of a 20’ wide x 115’ long stepped platform, a shelter formed by the roof and east wall, and several gabion stone walls. It is sited on a long, narrow, rocky hillside, sloping gently to the south and steeply to the east and west. The building reads and lives like a habitable landscape, adapting to the changing seasons and needs of its occupants. In short, this is a modest, sustainable building with a big presence in a big landscape. A light-framed, wood platform steps...

Annemasse Aquatic Center by Serero Architectes

Starting from the idea that the architectural skin of a building has an important impact on the environment, the entire building and its extension will be isolated externally, in order to prevent heat loss and to increase the building thermal inertia. Our project for the aquatic center in Annemasse was part of a process which aimed to: – Develop innovative and efficient solutions for the pool roof to limit its visual impact with high level of comfort. – Take advantage of the building...

Bridge in Vienna by SOLID architecture

The bridge is enclosed on all sides and connects the two buildings Rennweg 44 and 46 at the fifth upper floor, 17 metres above the Kleistgasse (in the third Vienna district). The span length of the bridge is 22 metres. In reference to its outward appearance, the bridge adds a third and formally individual element to the two existing buildings dating back to the 1980’s. The fair grey metallic colour of the exterior surfaces of the bridge assimilates with the grey-green colour spectrum of the two...

Circa on Jellicoe Multi-media Art Gallery by studioMAS Architects

Johannesburg is home to Circa on Jellicoe, a multi-media art gallery designed by South African based practice, studioMAS. Located on a busy urban intersection, it marks a prominent public intervention that challenges perceptions of “art” and “art galleries”. The architecture is a sculpture, moulding itself around its contents. Its elliptical form has developed from the constraints of a narrow site and the prospect of creating a landmark. Its main feature is an aluminium fin...

Villa Bio by Enric Ruiz Geli

Contemporary architecture is THE PLATFORM on which culture and contemporary art rest. Living in an exciting platform can become an art form: THE ART OF LIVING. We conceived this platform as a LANDSCAPE OF LINEAR EVENTS. The landscape folds itself within the site and forms a growing SPIRAL. The platform is a LINEAR STRUCTURE made of concrete of constant section in the shape of a “C”. The longitudinal blind FAÇADES function as BEAMS and create a 15m. projection. Concrete is a LIQUID MATERIAL....

The Bellevue Club by Baylis Architects

The design for the 3-story, 15,000 SF expansion needed to meet the changing functional requirements of this 30 year old fitness facility, complement the existing architecture, and maintain a quality and scale compatible with the adjacent single-family residential neighborhood. Influenced by Asian-inspired northwest architecture, the design achieved these goals through the use of a combination of elements including sloped roofs with large overhangs, cedar siding, stucco finish, and a horizontal window...

Diamond House by XTEN Architecture

The Diamondhouse is a sound studio and office extension to a house located deep in a canyon, against a severely sloping hillside, with minimal access and little space upon which to build. Direct sunlight reaches the site for only a few hours a day. The geotechnical condition is challenging, requiring 30-foot caissons to underpin new walls and foundations. A complex web of regulations governed the height, width, depth and specific relationship to the retaining walls needed to build the project. Given...
